The maps of western Ashkar simply end in green, so a man with a brass ruler draws a line through the painted forest, and the realm discovers that the land already knew where it began.
The Gilded Coven grew rich on Iskandar’s collapse and intends to spend the money on land. It buys engines from the Neon Synapse, hires surveyors, and begins cutting west into forest that appears on no map because nobody has ever thought to own it. The Sylvan Sanctuary is not farms and villages. It is the wild itself, and it has laws of its own about who may enter and what becomes of them. Neither side is remotely prepared for what the other considers reasonable.
